Avash Kalra, M.D.(Creator, Founder & Director)
Avash is a resident physician in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado (Denver, CO). Avash’s passion for using medical journalism to explore the humanism and art of medicine inspired his creation of Radio Rounds in 2008. He is a 2005 graduate of Cornell University and a 2012 graduate of the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. Also a former research assistant at the National Institutes of Health and a current senior writer for College Hockey News, Avash can be contacted at akalra at radiorounds.org.
Lakshman Swamy, M.D., M.B.A. (Founder & Host)
Lakshman received his MD/MBA from Wright State University in Dayton, OH and is now an Internal Medicine QI pathway resident at Boston Medical Center and recent Telluride Patient Safety Roundtable alumnus. Aside from his longtime involvement with Radio Rounds, his academic interests focus on quality and safety in health care. To this end, he has worked extensively with the IHI Open School, currently as an alumni advisor. His interests include medical student perceptions of quality, adverse event reporting by residents, and QI in the intensive care unit. He is an active member of the AMA’s Resident and Fellows Section, serving as a local Massachusetts delegate and on various local and national committees.
Shamie Das, M.D., M.B.A, M.P.H. (Founder & Director)
Shamie is an Emergency Medicine Resident at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He graduated from the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine’s Physician Leadership Development Program and is one of the founding members of Radio Rounds. He primarily manages strategic partnerships and financial planning for the organization. His interests are in health care improvement at the intersection of technology and innovation in medicine. He enjoys outdoor activities, traveling, and especially spending time with his family. He is continually inspired by the stories of humanism and heroism in medicine that define Radio Rounds.
John Corker, M.D. (Executive Director)
John is an Emergency Medicine resident physician at Parkland Hospital, UT-Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. He received his Medical Degree from the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and his Bachelor of Science from the University of Notre Dame. John completed a 1-year fellowship in Health Policy, Government Relations and Advocacy through the American Medical Association in 2013. In addition, his investigative journalism on a variety of health policy related topics has been featured in a number of national publications, including USA Today, Primary Care Progress and The Next Generation Journal.
Yojan Patel , M.D. (Executive Producer & Director)
Yojan is a 3rd year medical student and the executive producer of Radio Rounds. He enjoys the diverse content and is working hard to maintain the quality of the show. Apart from medicine, his interests lie heavily in sports, trivial facts, and twitter.
Arvind Suguness, M.D. (Web Manager)
Arvind is an Internal Medicine Resident at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, NH. He graduated from the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and completed his undergraduate studies in Computer and Information Science at The Ohio State University. When not spending his time at the hospital, he enjoys playing guitar, rock climbing and reading.
Imran Ali M.D., M.S. (Host)
Imran is currently a first year resident in Internal Medicine at Bridgeport Hospital, Yale New Haven Health and recently was Clinical Research Associate with Elmhurst Hospital and the Mount Sinai Medical Center’s Neurocritical Care Unit. Imran has graduated from St. Georges’ University School of Medicine’s Global Scholar’s program pursuing a combined Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health at New York Medical College’s Insitiute for Public Health. His interest in public health is also providing the basis for his career plans in broadcast medical journalism where educating the public is the top priority. Imran has gained experience by spending a year at CNN’s medical news unit with Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
Mark Baldwin (Producer)
Mark Baldwin is a University of Notre Dame graduate with a background in film and television production. Mark oversees show editing and serves as a producer for Radio Rounds. Mark is also a professional golfer and has competed in professional tournaments around the globe.
